How a Glass Façades Supplier Found a Specialized Project Cargo Solution with Delmar

A Client Success Story Built on Rigorous Quality Control and Specialized Packaging from Italy to the US

The Client

This client, located in Italy, specializes in the fabrication of unique bespoke glass building façades.

Fun Fact – This story isn’t about the glass façade that surrounds the World Famous Edge observation deck at Hudson Yards in New York City... which Delmar’s Project Cargo team is also behind.

The Request

Our client had been awarded 4 time-sensitive projects in and around New York City, USA in 2019. Transporting the glass from Italy to New York required tremendous expertise and attention to detail to ensure that the goods were cared for, transported and delivered to each job site on time and in perfect condition.

Delmar was awarded the task to manage and execute the transportation of the glass – a project cargo.

Delmar mobilized their specialized Project Cargo team to manage and coordinate the jobs. The project team diligently planned the transport of fragile and oversized cargo, ensuring attention to detail to prevent damage and timely delivery.

The Initial Challenge

When the COVID-19 global pandemic struck, the projects were delayed due to significant interruptions and unforeseen setbacks. The schedules for the glass delivery at each construction site were continuously altered.

The glass could not arrive early at the job sites due to storage limitations and the risk of it getting damaged while on site. It was imperative that the arrival of the glass aligned with the contractor's schedules – just on time!

This meant that the client had to hold their goods in Italy. Delmar quickly began to identify a secure solution to safely and securely store the glass until it could be transported to the construction sites in New York.

Second Challenge

When the cargo was ready to be transported from Italy to the US (months later), due to the lengthy storage period, the client was concerned about the condition of the goods and wanted to confirm that nothing was damaged before they were sent to New York.

To ensure the quality of the cargo, the project team mobilized personnel to open and inspect every box. Once confirmed to be in proper condition, the items were then expertly repackaged and made ready to ship.
